Release Notes for AMIS
May 29, 2007
What is AMIS?
AMIS is an open source, free of charge DAISY book player for Windows XP and 2000. AMIS supports full-text, full-audio DAISY 2.02 books. It also has support for DAISY/NISO books produced with Obi (and probably support for DAISY/NISO books in general, but more testing is required to support this claim officially).
Installation
Run the setup program, and AMIS will be installed with its default language settings for a U.S. English interface. SAPI 5.1 text-to-speech is required by AMIS: it comes with Windows XP, but Windows 2000 users have the option of installing it separately (download it here), or letting the AMIS installer download it automatically.
As of version 2.6, DirectX is also required by AMIS. You can download it here from Microsoft, or try another site like majorgeeks.com (fewer steps required).
